Project Volutus recognized as industry-leading approach for edge computing and edge clouds

Austin, Texas – December 8, 2017 – Vapor IO, the definitive platform for edge computing and edge clouds, has been awarded in the 2017 DatacenterDynamics Global Awards program, winning the Living on the Edge category for Project Volutus. Seeking to celebrate the rising tide of edge data centers in all its forms, this award honors those taking a unique and innovative approach to housing IT at the customer edge, acting as an exemplar to the wider industry. Since the launch of Project Volutus  in June of this year, Vapor IO has enabled cloud providers, wireless carriers and web-scale companies to deliver cloud-based edge computing applications via a network of micro data centers deployed at the base of cell tower sites, with proven results.

“We are incredibly honored to receive an award so laser-focused on the goals we are working towards,” said Cole Crawford, founder and CEO of Vapor IO. “Edge computing represents the next generation of cloud required to support 5G, IoT, autonomous driving and other edge applications. Project Volutus will push the cloud and data center industries forward by unlocking revolutionary services and applications at the edge of the network. We’re thankful to the organizers at DCD for the recognition.”

With Project Volutus, Vapor IO is building the world’s largest network of distributed edge data centers. Project Volutus deploys edge computing deep into the urban infrastructure, building micro data centers literally at the base of cell towers and wireless access hubs, integrating them into the wireless infrastructure and tying them all back to centralized clouds. This edge infrastructure will support new applications, such as autonomous vehicles and augmented reality, which require cloud workloads that run at the very edge of the network where they can be near the data and devices they support. Project Volutus has the potential to be the world’s largest network of distributed edge data centers.

Vapor IO also announced today, Edgecon Aspen, a three-day forum to shape the next generation of edge computing, taking place in Aspen, January 24-26, 2018. For more information on the Edgecon Aspen announcement, please click here.
